Ah getting fit is such a great idea, you start the new year off with fresh motivation and will, ready to better yourself and take on all of life’s challenges! But then there is a car payment, you spent too much at Christmas and you lost a bunch of cash to roulette because of that bloody green double zero. So what do you do? Use your home to get fit with no equipment!
Gym memberships and equipment can be pretty pricy even during “sales”, so it can take a fair chunk of your wallet just to get started. But why not start today? There are so many different exercises you can do at home that can help you tone up and start really defining your body.
The classic push up – That’s right, an oldie but a goody. Find yourself a pitch of ground and lay face down. Push yourself up with your arms and then lower yourself again. Repeat. Real easy right? Well there is a little bit more too it and you will probably want to watch your back and not strain yourself too hard but this is a tried and tested method of getting fit at home by working your arms and stomach muscles.

Chin ups – this won’t be available to everyone but it also allows you to get a little innovative. Even if you have to bend your knees find somewhere you can hang off and raise yourself up using your arms. Again you don’t want to give yourself a hernia so set yourself goals and increase your reps slowly.
Sit ups and crunches – these are a great way to tone the tummy and loose a bit of flab. So easy to do at home as well, wherever you can lay down simply put your hands behind your head and raise your body from the torso upwards. Crunches are a little tougher but you will see results faster, get the 6 pack going today!
Walking and running – This gets somehow overlooked by some people as an exercise for some reason. I mean nothing beats a nice walk in the evening! It is amazing for your body as well, you will burn a lot of calories and start feeling better almost instantly. You can start off slow and work your way up before running or jogging, set yourself some goals and off you go.
Small weights – “Hey, you said no equipment”, ok I lied, but you don’t need any equipment as such just some ingenuity! Got a couple of old cans of beetroot and peas in the cupboard? Start lifting them for a start. Lift them 30 times and I bet you won’t be laughing! Work your way up to anything heavier you can find that isn’t too terrible to lift (laundry detergent and big bottles have worked well, I have even heard of someone lifting bags of dog food to get fit).
This should already have made your mind wonder about what else you can do around your house that can help you work out. Start doing some jumping jacks, squats or even take your friend out dancing. There are so many ways that you can work exercise into your everyday life that before you know it you will be twice as energetic and look twice as good without spending a dime.
